(6/19/2012) A new tropical storm has been named. Chris has been dubbed a high-latitude tropical storm (changed to a hurricane on 6/21/12). It’s about level with Pennsylvania and heading east and away from land. So, it is pretty safe to safe the DR is in no danger.
The maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph and Chris is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone Wednesday night or Thursday.
I pretty much try to watch all of the “Tropical Storms”, but this one has me wondering why it is considered tropical when it came to life as high as it did. At any rate this one looks like it is going to stay well away from land.

Hurricane Chris didn’t remain a hurricane for long. As of the 5pm ast update Chris slowed don enough (70 mph) to be considered a tropical storm again.
There is a storm brewing in the gulf of Mexico that at this point has about a 50% chance of becoming a tropical storm. This one will cause quite a bit of rain and problems for Cuba, Florida and heading up the US coast. If you are planning some traveling where you have layovers or departures along the lower east coast you will likely want to watch this one. I’ll start a new post once it becomes a named storm.
