Sambil Mall in Santo Domingo will finally be opening up. After years of delays the new mall is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 30th, 2012. This new mall will not only be bringing in quite a few foreign stores of interest to both ex-pats living here but also to locals looking to be able have a wider selection of American and other foreign products to choose from. Sambil Mall is also expected to in time bring over 10,000 new jobs to the Santo Domingo area.

Sambil Job Openings

Of the over 10,000 new jobs about 4,000 are expected to be directly related to the mall while 6,000 are expected as indirect mall related jobs. The new Sambil Mall Job Openings will be in a large variety of different skills. Along with the usual food, retail store and mall services jobs there will also be a theater and even an upscale motel catering to business professionals visiting the DR and Santo Domingo area.

The mall will be able to house over 350 stores over 200 of which have already been spoken for. Along with the brands that we already frequently see like McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, ánd Baskin Robbins the mall owners are trying to attract bands that are new to the Dominican Republic.

The hotel will be catering to professionals and foreigners traveling into the DR and so there will also be quite a few job openings for people speaking foreign languages like Russian, English, Italian, German and French.

I look forward to checking out the new mall and hope it is able to fill up better that it seems that most of the malls in Santiago are able to. As I walk through the Santiago Malls it seems like they never quite get past half capacity except for in the food court area. We’ll see if the Sambil mall in Santo Domingo will have better success.
