For our most recent visit to Las Terrenas my wife and I decided to check out La Residencia Del Paseo, this is a three story hotel in the heart of Las Terrenas. There are studios for 1-2 people and duplexes for 2-4 people. The rooms have hot water, 24 hour power and free WiFi internet.
Location
For us La Residencia Del Paseo was in the ideal location. In the morning I liked to walk over to the Boulangerie Francaise to pick up breakfast, there is also a nice colmado in Plaza Taina to pick up ice, orange juice and other items for breakfast. This colmodo is pretty well stocked and will have most of the small items you’ll need including beer, rum, vodka, fruit and snacks as well as larger cooking supplies .
Right next door to the Hotel is a small outdoor mall (a Centro Comercial) called El Paseo de la Constanera. I will be writing quite a bit more on this mall in a future post, but for the sake of this article it’s good to know you will find clothes, gift stores, a store with things like sun screen and health items etc. Pretty much anything you might need will is within a hundred yards of La Residencia Del Paseo. There are also two ATM where you can withdrawal money, the money will be dispensed in Pesos. For this reason I don’t recommend bringing a lot of cash or travelers checks with you. It is easier to take your money out as you need it instead of carrying a lot with you.
While the hotel is not directly on the beach (very few are in Las Terrenas) it is a very short walk away. You pretty much just cross this mall and then a street and you are at the beach. This is also one of the closest hotels to many of the restaurants and beach bars (nice areas next to the beach to have a drink).
Service and prices
During our visit we met the owner, receptionist and some of the cleaning staff. All were very friendly and helpful. Most only spoke Spanish, but the owner also speaks English.
The prices are reasonable starting at $60 per night. They very some depending on the time of year and the owner is willing to negotiate discounts for groups and longer stays.
Rooms
La Residencia Del Paseo has both studio rooms and duplex rooms. My wife and I chose a studio for this visit. The rooms have a nice homey feel to them and include a “Living Room” section with a couch and TV, a small kitchen with a fridge, stove, and sink. The kitchen was also stocked with most of the needed dished, silverware, glasses and cooking items. There is also a nice sitting area with a table on a porch outside the kitchen where we ate our breakfasts.
While I didn’t get a chance to check out the duplexes, these were also available and could sleep up to 4 people.
Secure Parking
The hotel has a secured parking area where the gate is closed at night and there is a 24 hour guard. There is plenty of room for parking cars and rental quads and motorcycles if you choose.
Swimming Pool and Garden
The hotel is in a crescent shape that curves around a well manicured garden and pool area. There is a wading area for young children (or for adults to sit in the water and have a drink) as well deeper swimming area.
There is also a pool side bar and even a ping pong area.
Our Recommendation
Would we go back? Yes, in fact we plan on it. The location was excellent, it was right near the areas of the beach that we like to snorkel and hang out at and also near a couple of our favorite restaurants like Casa Azul and Boulangerie Francaise.

I was at Residencial del Paseo this weekend and agree totally with the above review. I was a little bit skeptical at the beginning since the entrance to the hotel is on a crowded street through the parking lot and it’s not so attractive, but once I was inside I could appreciate the true beauty of the place. We spent two night on a quad on the third floor, it was very comfy, only thing I didn’t like was that it only has one bathroom and there were four of us, besides that we had a great time, walked around at night, lots of restaurants and people on the streets. The walk to the beach is very short and entertaining as you have to go through the Plaza and then cross a narrow street and you’re there, the beach is gorgeous but remember, this is the atlantic, the sand is brownish yellow not white as in Punta Cana, but trust me, Las Terrenas is one hell of a vacationing place, I am in love with it.

@Padilla
My wife and I talk about the entrance every time we go there. They have an area where they could have a small garden at the street, but it is not very well tended. Kind of a shame, however once you get into the courtyard they do a very nice job of keeping their garden up.
Did you get a chance to head across the street from the entrance and to the left. where the Boulangerie Francaise is? My wife and I usually pick up our breakfast there every morning and take it back to the patio, dining area in our room. That is one of our favorites.
Also, what other restaurants did you try?

Hi Dwayne, yes I did go to Boulangerie Francaise, actually this is the way I took to the beach before I knew there was another way even closer, I never had breakfast there since we cooked breakfast for everyone, there were too many of us, we had 4 quad rooms altogether, but I stopped there for coffee and fresh bread in the afternoon. At night we had at a restaurant on the beach, it’s called Coco Pizza or something like that, the whole pie was like 240 DOP! it was very thin but tasty. The next day we rented the BBQ (for 200 DOP, a bargain!)and had a BBQ around the pool, bought fresh fish from the fishermen and cooked rice and beans (there were 14 of us!), another time we ate at a restaurant in town which I don\’t remember but it was not on the beach and it was really good and not too expensive…
Sorry I took too long to respond, this response is from yesterday but it didn’t go through, I’m sending it again

Good idea with the BBQ, we’ll have to try that the next time we are over there.
Dominican pizza can be interesting. Most locations in the DR make it with the local (somewhat sour) cheese and corn as a topping. It’s a little tougher to find a good pizza here.

I first heard of La Residencia Del Paseo from my close friend.. He went there together with his family on a weekend trip.. He said it feels like you are at home because of the cozy ambiance.. I hope I can visit this place soon.. Thanks for sharing!
