Comments Off on All-American restaurant chain Johnny Rockets in Santo Domingo
There is a new American food restaurant in Santo Domingo. The “Home of the Original Hamburger” Johnny Rockets has opened a 6,000 square foot restaurant in the Poligono Central district of downtown Santo Domingo, and there was dancing in the streets (well at least in the restaurant, see videos)
A grand opening celebration was held on Tuesday, June 5 at 6:00 p.m., and featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, appearances by local dignitaries, menu sampling, and performances by Johnny Rockets dancing servers. “Hamburgers are very popular in the Dominican Republic but it’s the Guest experience that really makes Johnny Rockets special,” said Axel Hache. “We’re honored to treat the people of Santo Domingo to our fun, family-friendly atmosphere with classic American music and dancing servers.”
The new restaurant’s modern, high-tech design pays homage to the futuristic yet classic Googie architecture style, and features Johnny Rockets franchise owner Axel Hache’s world record-setting fastest remote-control jet as a centerpiece. Prominent fixtures in the Santo Domingo community, Hache and his brother Gamal lead the National Basketball League team, the Titans, and own several other restaurants. With exclusive rights to the iconic Johnny Rockets brand in the Dominican Republic, the new Santo Domingo location marks the first of five Johnny Rockets restaurants the Hache brothers plan to open in their home country.
